Monthly Meeting 8th May 2008

MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS OF COMMITTEE OF COBH TOWN COUNCIL, HELD AT CARRIG HOUSE, COBH, ON THURSDAY 08th MAY 2008.

 

 

Presiding -      Cllr. P. Whitty

 

Present -         Councillors S. Meade, P. Histon, N. Doyle, D. Crowley and S. O’Connor.

 

OFFICIALS PRESENT  

Mr. P. Moore – A/Town Clerk.

Ms. N. McCarthy – Clerical Officer

 

 

An apology for their inability to attend was received from Cllrs. M. Keating, K. McCarthy and J. Mulvihill.

 

The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in silence.

 

Mayor Whitty welcomed Pat Moore – A/Town Clerk to Cobh and requested that a letter be sent to Paraig Lynch – Town Clerk wishing him a speedy recovery.

 

1.      AMAI Submission on Local Government to minister Gormley

 

Mayor Whitty read a letter received from AMAI.  Following a discussion it was agreed on the proposal of Mayor Whitty seconded by Cllr Meade that a letter confirming that Cobh Town Council’s submission would be drawn up for signing by the members at the monthly meeting to be held on Monday the 12th.

 

2.      Lake Charles Twinning

 

Mayor Whitty read a letter received from Lake Charles, Louisiana inviting the members of Cobh Town Council to visit.  They stated they wished to Twin with Cobh.  This motion was proposed by Mayor Whitty and seconded by Cllr. Doyle.

 

On the proposal of Cllr. Whitty, seconded by Cllr. Doyle, it was decided that the trip would take place between 20th and 25th of May inclusive.  In addition to Cllrs. Whitty, and Crowley, it was agreed on the proposal of Cllr. Whitty, seconded by Cllr. Doyle that Cllr. Histon and Cllr. Meade would travel as part of the delegation.

 

3.      Corpus Christi Procession

 

A letter was received from Fr. Leamy administrator.  It appeared that there was a mix up with invitations last year. 

All nine members were notified with regard to this procession however six of the nine members will not be able to attend.  It was agreed that Mayor Whitty would acknowledge and respond.

  

4.      Age Concern – Pontarddulais

 

A group from Pontarddulais are due to Cobh and they issued an invitation to meet with the members.  It was agreed that the matter would be further discussed on Monday night’s meeting, which will be held on the 12th May.

 

5.      Litter Competition

 

Mayor Whitty introduced the subject of the school litter art competition for St. Mary’s School and Rushbrooke National School.  It was necessary to establish a venue where the art could be displayed and get someone to judge it.  It was decided that Cllr. S. O’Connor, Tom Clarke – Town Foreman and Mary O’Connor – Great Island News be asked if they would be available and the venue would be established at a later date.

 

6.      Any Other Business

 

a.       Cllr D. Crowley requested information regarding proposed delegation from Springfield Soccer Club who are to attend the Council meeting to be held Monday 12th.

b.      It was noted that two transition year students from Cobh Community College would be attending meeting to be held 12th May.

c.       M.U.G.A

Mayor Whitty stated that the site put forward by Cork County Council had a lot of restrictions, which wouldn’t make it possible.  It would appear that €40,000 would not be enough.  The A/Town Clerk stated that the total cost would be in the reign of €55,000 and the Community would have to come up with the rest.

 

 

This concluded the business of the meeting.
