MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS OF COMMITTEE OF COBH TOWN COUNCIL, HELD AT CARRIG HOUSE, COBH, ON MONDAY 19th FEBRUARY, 2007.
Presiding - Cllr. N. Doyle
Present - Councillors P. Histon, K. McCarthy, P. Whitty, J. Mulvihill, and D. Crowley.
OFFICIALS PRESENT Ms. M. O’Halloran – Town Manager Mr. P. Lynch – Town Clerk
An apology for their inability to attend was received from Cllrs s. O’Connor, S. Meade and M Keating.
The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer.
1. REPORT OF THE HOUSING SUB-COMMITTEE
All members present expressed their disappointment that 3 members had been unable to attend the meeting. The issue needed to be considered by all of the members of the Council due to its importance.
The Manager stated that the members knew her opposition to the proposed points system. She stated that she had previously advised that the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government were looking at a new national system. She stated that the Department had now released a document in relation to housing policy which referred to legislation being drafted in this regard.
On the proposal of Cllr. Mulvihill, seconded by Cllr. McCarthy, it was agreed to defer further consideration of the issue until a Committee Meeting of the Council to be held at 7.30 p.m. on Monday 12th March, immediately following the March monthly meeting.
2. TOURISM FUNDING
A full discussion of the issue of funding for tourism bodies took place, to which all members present contributed. The issue of funding for the Cobh & Harbour Chamber was discussed and it was agreed that the Town Clerk would write to the Chamber asking for details of the costs incurred by them in providing a Tourism Office in Cobh. It was also agreed that the letter would also ask whether or not product providers in Cobh who were not members of the Chamber were permitted to advertise in the Tourist Office.
In relation to East Cork Tourism, Cllr. Whitty stated that Ryan Howard had indicated that they were looking for specific proposals from each town in relation to projects to be supported by East Cork Tourism.
It was agreed, on the proposal of Cllr. Crowley, seconded by Cllr. McCarthy, that the Mayor would meet with the tourism bodies, accompanied by the members of the Council who were representatives to Cobh Tourism as well as the Manager and the Town Clerk. This group would then report back to a full meeting of the Council.
This concluded the business of the meeting.
