MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS AT ANNUAL MEETING OF THE COBH TOWN COUNCIL, HELD AT TOWN HALL, COBH, ON TUESDAY 20th JUNE, 2006.

Present - Cllrs. S. O’Connor, P. Histon, J. Mulvihill, P. Whitty, D. Crowley, K. McCarthy, N. Doyle and M. Keating

The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer.
Councillor Meade welcomed all to the meeting. She stated it had been an honour and privilege to be Mayor of Cobh for the fourth time in 21 years. She stated that it had been a good year in that the swimming pool was now nearing completion and would provide a top class leisure centre for the town. She commended P.J. Walls for their work. 2005 saw the extension of the Port of Cork. Stage 1 of the Community Centre was now complete and she wished to congratulate all involved. The news from IBAL was good news as Cobh was moving in the right direction.
Cllr. Meade stated that she wished to thank the Members of the Council for their support as Mayor over the past twelve months. She was honoured to have been chosen as Mayor. She felt it had been a successful year and that she always had the support of the Members and staff.
Councillor Meade thanked the Manager, the Town Clerk and the staff of the Council for the courtesy shown to her over the past twelve months.
All of the members expressed their thanks for the work done by the Mayor over her term of office. The Town Manager stated that she wished to associate herself and all of the staff with the congratulations of the members.
1. ELECTION OF MAYOR
Nominations were invited for the position of Mayor.
Cllr. Crowley proposed the nomination of Cllr. N Doyle and Councillor Whitty seconded it.
Cllr. McCarthy proposed the nomination of Cllr. Keating. Cllr. O’Connor seconded it.
Cllr. Crowley called for a vote which results as follows:-
For Cllr. Doyle: Cllrs. Meade, Crowley, Mulvihill, Whitty and Doyle (5)
For Cllr. Keating: Cllrs. O’Connor, Histon, McCarthy and Keating (4)
Cllr. Doyle was therefore declared to be elected Mayor.
Cllr. Doyle assumed the Chair and thanked Members of the Council for the honour they had bestowed upon her. She stated that her aim was to carry on the good work started by Cllr. Meade and that she promised to carry out her duties with the dignity appropriate to the position. She stated that there were a lot of positive things going on in the town and that one of her goals would be to support the voluntary ethic in Cobh.
ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR.
Councillor Mulvihill proposed Councillor Crowley, Councillor Doyle seconded.
Councillor McCarthy proposed Councillor Keating, Councillor O’Connor seconded.
There being no other nominations, the Mayor directed that a poll be taken by means of a roll call, which resulted as follows:-
For Councillor Crowley: Councillors Doyle, Mulvihill, Meade, Whitty and Crowley (5)
For Councillor Keating: Councillors O’Connor, Histon, McCarthy, and Keating. (4)
Councillor Crowley having received the greater number of votes, was declared elected as Deputy Mayor.
Members congratulated the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
